In June 2019, ‘Encounters Across Cultures: Seeds of Life’ arrived at The Upper House in Hong Kong with a stunning series of video installations by artist Katja Loher in partnership with Feng Shui designer Thierry Chow.
By exploring the relationship between the Five Elements and Feng Shui, the collaboration reveals how Hong Kong is able to preserve its Chinese traditions and modernise it with the Western influences embedded in its culture. The installation takes the form of abstract video projections and sculptural shapes which transport visitors on an upward journey through the House and offers a visual feast that begins at the entrance and travels upwards to Level 6 before culminating on Level 49.
Thierry is not only featured in the artwork but offered guidance on enhancing the free flow of positive energy of ‘qi’ throughout the space.
The opening event saw media, special guests and friends of the House celebrate Katja and Thierry’s cross-disciplinary collaboration while enjoying a series of specialty cocktails based on the Five Elements which were served by the bar team at Café Gray Deluxe.
